The lazy doll maker

The lazy doll maker

There are days that seem to arrive with an urgency to create and to 'do'. Days where making dolls - or anything else - is uncomplicated and joyful. There are also days where ideas may take shape in the head, but they go no further. The trees I can see from my workbench hold my gaze and a dreamy mood takes me.

Daydreaming is, for me, an essential part of living. Not just as a prelude for creating, but simply to allow my mind to rest in a sea of nothingness. It's an art that was normal as a child, indulgent as an adult trying to hold the responsibilities of life and family together and, in later years, a re-learned perfectly normal part of existence.

Finding different, deeper and more meaningful ways to not do anything except just 'be here' is a valuable skill to learn. Sometimes my mental 'things to do list' is blank. And that's just fine.
