Pathfinder & Avatar

Pathfinder & Avatar

A commision to create a companion/avatar is by no means easy - even if the customer has been a friend for many years.
How does it work?
I would find it very difficult to work to someone else's detailed specification or drawing. I think it almost impossible to try and guess what image may be presenting itself in their imagination (even with a drawing). So, in a strange way, I needed to step out of the way and let her (the sculpture was always a 'her') speak to me as I worked. It's a process I really enjoy - even if the 'will they get on?' question hangs in the air until they meet.

Luckily, they did get on.

"I use my felt sculpture as a focus point, a pathfinder for what I am trying to manifest in my life. I create an altar, or scene to depict what I am trying to bring into my life. It could be for an art exhibition or a trip to Italy or to receive an insight. When she is not busy manifesting for me, she is a reminder of who I would like to be. A serene, strong, wise woman in her vibrant colours travelling through life ready for her next adventure. Just looking at her makes me smile. Thank you, Barbara, for bringing her into being for me."
